Shane Smith (Vice): And The New York Times, meanwhile, is writing about surfing, and I’m sitting there going like, ‘You know what? I’m not going to talk about surfing, I’m going to talk about cannibalism [in Liberia], because that fucks me up.’

David Carr (New York Times): Just a sec, time…

David Carr is one of my favorite journalists. So much so that I went to see this movie alone on a Saturday afternoon, and so much so that I left work early one rainy day in Portland to go see him speak at Powell’s, where we had a discussion about journalism and he signed my book, Brianne ~ Beautiful name, beautiful life.

After watching this movie in the theater, I made my co-worker, who doesn’t give a shit about journalism, listen to me be excited about exactly this part of the movie. I was talking too fast and peppering the conversation with “And he was all”s and some “Then he was like”s.
She did not give one fuck, but this part of this movie was maybe one of the most exciting things I’d seen all year.
